GET INVOLVED

By blending and leveraging existing resources and providing funding through Smart Start - the following programs are made possible to the young children:

• Parent Education-Family Connections: Family Connections utilizes a strengths based approach to provide parent education and support to families through personal visits and group activities.  Contact:  Nancy Bailey, Family Connections, 433-7676.

• Parent Education/Support Coordinator:  The local Resource and Referral Agency provides a coordinated parenting education and support system for families of young children.  Contact:  Anna Smith, Child Care Connections, 439-2328.

• Burke Even Start:  This activity provides an intergenerational family literacy program for parents of educationally disadvantaged children, ages 12 months to five years old (non-kindergartners) who are seeking their GED, English as a Second Language or better employment opportunities.  Contact:  Linda Wilson, Drexel Primary School, 432-2880.

• Burke Family Literacy Programs:  This agency promotes literacy and English as a second language to parents of children 0-5.  Contact:  Browning Rochefort, Burke County Literacy Council, 437-7477.

• Hope From The Start:  This program provides support, information, and training for families with young children, birth through five, with or at high risk for disabilities.  Contact:  Vickie Dieter, The Enola Group, 256-5202.
